Finally something that works!!

Dogtra No Bark Dog Collar YS300 For Small to Medium Dogs Reviews

We have tried everything with our wonderful dog who never barks.. except when we leave… we started by giving him chew toys, busy bone, ultrasonic bark device, relaxing music for dogs (I kid you not), a dog collar with a citronelle spray, a fermone spray for his bed, and then we got a different electric collar pet safe which ambed up the shocks which worked somewhat but then our dog would howl when we leave.. it does not zap that kind of noise. After using this for a few years and watching our dog howl more and more when we leave… after another set of batteries ran out… we bought this one and oh my god it actually works. I think it’ the vibration warning a zap is coming which makes it such a success… as it’s a one two punch we needed to calm our dog down. For those of you who think this a bad for you dog… NO.. what is bad for your dog is straining his vocal cords all day and our neighbors nerves. Now he doesn’t even attempt to bark or howl when leave what a huge relief!! Worth every penny… I rarely review items only when they exceed my expectations and when I think someone else could benefit from it! PS it has speed charger just takes two hours to charge!

Great collar, weird mix-up

PetSafe Deluxe Bark Control Collar, PDBC-300 Reviews

I bought one of the collar as pictured directly from the PetSafe website. It was the best I’ve had of three different types of bark collars because it doesn’t fire when the dog shakes his head, and the adjustable dial gives me control over the severity of the “reminder” the dog receives. A school play yard is adjacent to my backyard, and the dogs would bark hysterically whenever the children were outside, driving my wonderful neighbors nuts. It worked so well on my younger Schnauzer that I decided to get another one for the older Schnauzer. The new collar arrived with a different buckle arrangement than the one in the picture. It has the black plastic snap fastener, a metal buckle, holes for the buckle tongue to go through, and a black plastic holder for the excess strap. All this gear on a little mini Schnauzer neck is not a pretty sight! The holder piece broke, so I have to weave the excess strap under the collar so it doesn’t flap around. Now, the good news: Amazon.com is sending me a free replacement, and I don’t have to send back the one I have until the new one arrives! Way to go, Amazon.com!

Just a note for the unaware: smart dogs who really want to bark quickly learn that they can bark through the series of six shocks at the first (mildest) level, then they won’t get shocked again for quite some time. That’s a safety feature built into the collar, and can make one think the collar isn’t working. This particular problem can be overcome by adjusting it up a notch on this collar! A nice feature!

Premier Citronella Spray Refills for Premier Anti-Bark Collars

Premier Citronella Refill for Anti Bark Collar, 3-ounces Reviews

Firstly, we have found Premier brand’s new Citronella battery-operated Anti-Bark Collars with on/off switch for Dogs to be quite efficient a majority of the time, in that Dogs seem to bark more selectively. So, we still have a watch pooch but not a yapping pooch! And, the Citronella Spray Refills are easy to use in refilling the spraying mechanism container on the collar. Do check battery often. Do check collar often to maintain appropriate tightness/looseness so collar does not fall off. Do refill collar at least daily or more often to maintain consistent spraying of Dog when barking to reinforce selective barking habits. Amazon.com carries Premier’s Anti-Bark Collar, Citronella Spray refills and batteries at competitive pricing.

love it

Spray Sense 6 Volt Battery Retail Package Reviews

Worked wonders instantly with my cavalier. Immediate results. I only have to put it on him now and then for a “refresher”. I am still on the first can of spray and the first set of batteries. We have had it for about 3 weeks or so. The only down side is that he got a couple of inadvertant “corrections” for shaking his coat or for someone speaking too close to the microphone. Once you know that though, you can guard against it. He was a little scared at first and hid after he got sprayed but now I guess he gets what causes it. This collar cost about $60.00 less than one I saw at Petsmart that appeared to be the same.

It works…

Innotek Automatic No-Bark Dog Collar, BC-50B Reviews

We bought this collar for our animal shelter rescued American Eskimo who barked ALL THE TIME. By barked all the time, I mean he barked and kept barking for 10 minutes or more. He barked at us, he barked at the other dogs, he barked at the cats, he barked at any noises inside or outside, he barked whenever someone walked in the door, he barked while he played and he barked in his kennel. The worst part was when he would start barking at 4 in the morning and not stop till we let him out at 8. For two months we tried everything we could think of, and everything a certified trainer could think of… with absolutely no luck.

The day I got it I rubbed in against a hard surface and touched the tips. I did that several times (to get it to go up as high as I could). It startles you a lot; it really doesn’t hurt, even all the way up. If you do that yourself, remember to take out the battery so that it will reset down to the lowest shock level. It takes a couple of hours to reset itself back down, and taking the battery out and then putting it back in will restart it.

The first day I put it on my dog he barked up to the 3rd or 4th setting before he gave a yelp and stopped barking. It was the kind of yelp he does when he is rough housing with the other dogs; the yelp that says “okay, you win, I give up” NOT “I’m in pain”. We used it every evening after work and through the night… for about 2 weeks. Now we might have to put it on him once a week for a couple of hours, just as a reminder. He almost never barks in the house anymore, and when he does it is just one bark and he is done. Periodically throughout the week when he is quiet (like when we walk in the door and he doesn’t bark at us) we walk over and give him a treat, to reinforce the good behavior.

I think the product is great. I don’t usually like products like this, but there are some dogs that just won’t learn any other way. We rescued our dog from the animal shelter and his bad barking habit was already drilled into him… this was all we could do to fix it. Once your dog learns what happens it shouldn’t take very long for him to realize that barking is not good… then just reinforce the good behavior when it happens. Hope this helps.

Works very well for our corgis

PetSafe Ultrasonic Indoor Bark Control, PBC-1000 Reviews

Admittedly we have only had it for a few days, but our dogs responded at once. We had trouble for years with them barking when someone was leaving the house (even though other people were still in the house!) or when visitors or delivery people arrived. Every arrival and departure was a major event, noisewise. If one dog started to bark, the other one felt compelled to join in. We tried other measures to control the excessive barking, but to no avail. This device worked instantly. The dogs bark once or twice, CLEARLY hear the sound although we can’t, and stop barking immediately. The house has never been so quiet! Our dogs are Pembroke Welsh Corgis, a breed which is known to have sensitive hearing, and when used to herd are trained using whistled commands. I noticed from reading other reviews in which people mentioned their breed of dog that other herding dogs (like German Shepherds) seem more apt to respond, whereas non-herding breeds (like terriers) may be less responsive…no proof, just an impression from my research.

Update on Feb. 22, 2008. This product continues to work well, and our dogs have adjusted to it. Initially they were a little cowed and appeared distressed by what, to them, must be a very unpleasant noise, but they quickly learned that one bark was OK, two was a no-no, and a gentle woof (if they really needed to make a noise, which they occasionally feel they must do as part of their duty to the family) wouldn’t set off the alarm. Today it snowed here, and our neighbor plowed our long driveway, which is normally a very noisy affair, dogwise, but there were only a couple of subdued “woofs” as the dogs did their jobs of alerting us to what they perceive to be an intruder on the property and then went back to sleep, rather than continuing to bark until they exhausted themselves, and us. Our house has never been so quiet! I am delighted with this product, and very happy that our dogs have adjusted to it so quickly, and am amazed at how quickly they figured out how to “express themselves” discreetly, when they need to, without going overboard and driving us all crazy! Of course, corgis are pretty intelligent and trainable dogs, and I am as impressed with the breed as I am with the product!

To Whoof, or not to whoof, that is the question

PetSafe No-Bark Collar, PBC-102 Reviews

This is a must have if you live within the city limits, have fussy or close neighbors in proximity to your yard, or have a strict home owners association that prohibits excessive dog barking. I am a lab breeder and own 3 of these units. I am very pleased with the performance and function of this product because it stops “nuisance barking” by administering a minimal buzz that gradually gets stronger the longer the dog barks the lowest setting delivers your common “prankster hand buzzer” volt. And if your too squeamish about buzzing your dog, there is a “lemon spray” version of this exact brand that also works well too. Instead of delivering a buzz, it puffs a lemon deterant near the snout. For more stubborn dogs, the buzzer seems to work better. In no way is this harmful to your dog, but rather more humane discipline than verbal or physical correction by you, the owner. I believe all dogs are pleasers and want you to be happy with them. If your dog doesn’t have a bark collar, most people tend to over correct or not be completely steady in the level of correction being a swat on the hind end, hopefully nothing more abusive, or other methods. The end result is your dog barks when your not around. That’s why these collars work so well, it adjusts and corrects only as needed, and with as little force as needed, and will never over correct, or over punish, like we humans sometimes do when we’re angry or sleep deprived due to a BARKING DOG!!!! By using this bark collar, the dog, in a sence, is making a choice whether or not it wants to continue barking incesantly, which is a much better training technique. This collar will still allow them to bark, don’t get me wrong, but the ongoing nuisance barking will cease. These collars work great and allow more opportunities for us to reward the dogs for good behavior instead of correcting them for barking constantly. You’ll love your dog more and he’ll love you more too by being a good owner and keeping everyone happy. I would definitely buy more of this brand if my other units get damaged somehow.

Bark Arrester

PetSafe Outdoor Ultrasonic Bark Deterrent Reviews

We’ve been bothered by a neighbor’s dog that comes out periodically day and night and just barks for 10 to 30 minutes — usually facing our house. We got this product, found a spot in the trees facing the dog, and set it up. It’s really worked as advertised. The dog starting barking, as usual, but then seemed to bark fewer times, and with less noise. As three weeks have passed, we hear the dog give one or two “test” yelps (more than barks) presumably to see if it still gets “zapped’ by the machine. Since it does, it stops barking immediately. No more gritting teeth (for us) for 10 to 30 minutes, as before. So, I’m delighted with this and wholeheartedly recommend it.
